Don't rely on colour alone:

How do you do this?

• Do not rely on colour alone to convey information - also use text, shapes (W3C Techniques for conveying information)
• Choose high contrast colours for text on background (Juicy Studio Colour Contrast Checker - evaluates contrast between text and background - aim for the maximum, or test by changing your monitor display to black and white, or print your page on a black and white printer)

Why? People who cannot differentiate between certain colors and users with devices that have non-color or non-visual displays, or users working in an environment where there is excessive glare may have difficuty perceiving the information.
