Welcome
to the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance and thanks
for visiting our web site. Accounting and Corporate Governance education
is one of the long serving areas at the University of Tasmania and
has been taught since 1919. Throughout the School's development,
and in particular during the last decade, the importance of both
teaching and research continues to be emphasised. In today's business
environment, more than ever, the School is committed to ensuring
that a University education should produce professional competence,
a portfolio of intellectual skills and ethical attitudes, the value
of which will endure during graduates' working lives. The School's
recent move of introducing a major sequence of studies in Corporate
Governance is indicative of the School's focus on important issues
involving accounting and society.
The School has been a leader in providing flexible teaching and
learning and was rewarded in 2002 with a Vice Chancellor's award
for teaching excellence, the first time a School at the University
had been awarded this honour. The School has ongoing links with
professional accounting and corporate governance bodies including
CPA Australia; the
Institute of Chartered Accountants
in Australia and the National
Institute of Accountants. The School also maintains relationships
with industry and government and these links are important to ensure
that teaching and research continues to be at the cutting edge.
