Submissions to the School's new Occasional Paper Series have been invited from next month. School staff, research students and visitors are eligible to submit research or teaching scholarship papers to the Series.

Launceston-based academic, Peter Dixon, is one of a team to gain funding from the Australian Government's Office of Learning and Teaching. The seed funding will be used to investigate key challenges of industry professionals (practitioners) in the career transition to academia. Australia needs more academics in some disciplines. The project seeks to identify the ways in which professional development, mentoring and other leadership models can assist in this transition.

Dr Nadianatra Musa, a recent doctoral graduate from the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance has won the Best Paper Award with two co-authors at the Malaysian Conference on Information Systems (MCIS2013). 

The School of Accounting and Corporate Governance recently launched a new journal to showcase student writing and research. The first edition of Pacioli: The Journal for Student Writing was launched at the annual UTAS Teaching Matters Conference. The Journal is known as Pacioli after Fra Luca Pacioli, the first person known to document accounting practices. Pacioli is a refereed journal for students from the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance.

John Minas, Sonia Shimeld and Simone Bingham won the Best Teaching Paper Award at the Australasian Tax Teachers Association Conference 2013, held at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. The title of their teaching scholarship paper was "Using one-on-one interviews in tax teaching". The paper documented an assessment initiative used in the Master of Professional Accounting unit, Australian Tax Law, at the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance.

Simone Bingham and Sonia Shimeld, Lecturers with the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance, attended the recent Teaching Matters Conference in Launceston- Sustaining  Futures: Considering sustainability across the learning and teaching divide 2012. (4th December 2012)

CRC ORE Research Funding Success  Professor Roger Willett and Dr Michael Falta, Honorary CRC Fellow, both of the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance, are among a team of nine researchers to receive funding for a CRC ORE research project.

Bernadette Smith and Patricia O’Keefe from the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance, with a UTAS colleague, won the Best Poster Prize at the 35th annual HERDSA Conference (Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia), 2012. HERDSA 2012 was hosted by the University of Tasmania in Hobart. Delegates came from around Australasia, as well as from elsewhere around the world.

Dr Sonia Shimeld presented her paper “Governance and Accountability in Not-for-Profit Organisations” at the 16th International Business Research Conference in Dubai, in April 2012. The paper, co-authored by Professor Gary O’Donovan, investigated how board members and CEOs of not-for-profit sporting organisations perceived governance and related governance structures in their organisations.

Dr William Maguire and a co-author have been recognised in the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2012.
