The Best Paper Award was given to Associate Professor Sue Hrasky, Head of the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance (UTas) and Michael Jones from the Bristol University at the 10th Conference on Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR) conference held in Launceston, Tasmania.
The paper was entitled The Lake Pedder Decision: Accounting for Nature and Creative Accounting. The paper looked at the accountancy basis for the decision to build the Lake Pedder hydro-electric dam. In an interview with ABC Radio Dr Hrasky said “There is nothing that we have that can systematically value things like beauty. I think we have to change the way we approach these decisions to include other factors on an equal footing with the quantitative ones"
