Prestigious Awards for Paul and Greg

Congratulations to Paul Haddad and Gregory Dicinoski, who have both received prestigious awards.

Paul Haddad won the esteemed American Chemical Society Chromatography Award, making him the first Australian to ever receive it. Paul will be officially presented with the award at the ACS National Meeting, held in New Orleans, April 2013.

In addition, the inaugural Tasmanian Science Excellence Awards were recently held at parliament house, where both Paul Haddad and Gregory Dicinoski were honoured.

Paul received the Premiers Award for Tasmanian Scientist of the Year, presented by David O’Byrne, the Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology.

“Professor Haddad has shown great leadership in his field and I believe we are truly blessed to have such talent living and working among us,” Mr O’Byrne said. “His talent, commitment and drive embodies all that is great about our scientific community.”

Greg received the Tasmanian Minister’s Science Innovation Award for the ACROSS project Scantex, an anti-terrorism device that detects the presence of home-made explosives.

Upon receiving the award, Greg was quick to thank his ACROSS colleagues.

“I’d like to acknowledge their contribution to this product, which will make it safer for members of the public when they travel, as Scantex makes it possible to detect a much wider range of explosive devices,” he said. “Hopefully this will lead to a commercial product in the very near future.”

Once again, congratulations to both these esteemed members of ACROSS, and all the best in their future endeavours.
