The School of Agricultural Science offers honours research opportunities for eligible students into the Bachelor of Agricultural Science Hons (50% embedded coursework component), Bachelor of Science (Microbiology) Hons and Graduate Diploma in Agriculture (Hons) over a 9-month duration. First Semester (February/March) and Second Semester (July/August) enrolments are allowed.
The Honours year aims to provide
- Training in research as preparation for employment in a research organisation or for postgraduate study into Masters or PhD programmes;
- Advanced knowledge and scientific training in a specialised area of agricultural science for future roles in industry, government, consultancy or business organisations;
- Skills in locating, evaluating, processing and summarising published information so as to identify key issues, what is already known, existing knowledge gaps and relevant steps in filling identified gaps;
- Opportunities to conduct a scientific investigation utilising appropriate experimental designs within the limitations of available technical resources, time and budget;
- Hands-on experience with laboratory, field and analytical procedures in relevant aspects of animal science, soil science, entomology, horticulture, crop science, food microbiology, pathology, pasture agronomy, viticulture, physiology, forestry, climate change or genetics; and
- Development of written and oral communication skills to an acceptable standard meeting the requirements of oral presentations at conferences or scientific journal articles.
