I teach in KLA398 Applied and Environmental Microbiology and provide guest lectures for a number of other microbiology units.
I am currently supervising honours and postgraduate research projects in a range of areas from the development of new technologies for assessing microbial communities to the role of microbial communities in aquaculture and bioremediation.

I am a microbial ecologist primarily interested in microbial community dynamics and how microbes interact with their environment. To do this I use a range of techniques from culturing to pyrosequencing, tRFLP and quantitative (real-time) PCR.
