Career summary
I have an honours degree and PhD in Agricultural Science from UTAS. On completion of my PhD, I spent the next 9 years interstate or overseas, where I held postdoctoral positions at CSIRO Plant Industry in WA (1997-2001) and at the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines (2001-2003), returning to WA to take up and a research position at UWA (2003-2007). I have been an academic in the School of Agricultural Science at UTAS since 2007.
Research interests
My research is within TIA’s Extensive Agriculture Centre. My research interests have focused on cereal grain crops including wheat and barley and range from whole-plant physiology to agronomy, with specifically plant adaptation to drought, root systems, yield potential and water-use efficiency, with support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation. Collaborators include CSIRO, DPI Victoria, Southern Farming Systems, Birchip Cropping Group and Charles Sturt University.
Scholarship of teaching
I completed the Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching at UTAS in 2009 and have teaching scholarship interests in assessment and developing threshold learning outcomes for Agricultural Science.
