The School of Agricultural Science has the highest number of research higher degree (RHD) candidates of any school at the University of Tasmania. On average, the School has between 60 and 80 RHD students at any one time (both at PhD and MSc levels). Over 100 students have graduated from the School since 2000.
The School provides world-class expertise and supervision in diverse areas of research, ranging from molecular and cell biology to sustainable resource management and ecosystems. One of the School’s strengths is a well balanced portfolio of both highly fundamental and applied research. More specific information on the key areas of research and research supervision capacity within the School is available below. The School is committed to promoting the culture of postgraduate research, efficient student supervision, achieving scientific excellence, and maintaining a research environment which is competitively attractive to the postgraduate population.
A list of specific projects currently available in the School/TIA is given here. Often, dedicated scholarships are available for some of them. Thus, it is highly advisable for the potential candidates to contact an appropriate staff member prior to making a general enquiry or filling the application forms.

The Master of Business Administration (Professional) in Agricultural Innovation provides knowledge and skills in both management and agribusiness. This Masters program is in response to the Tasmanian Government’s vision of the State as a premium food producer. This program provides postgraduate training with a focus on developing agribusiness and innovation skills.
