I am currently …

A principal consultant with DNV GL Maritime based in Dubai. DNV GL is the world’s largest classification service and enables organizations to advance the safety and sustainability of their business. The company provides classification, technical assurance, software and independent expert advisory services to the maritime, oil & gas and energy industry as well as certification services.

My career in brief…

I worked in various roles in the marine industry over the course of my career, including as a sales and marketing manager for Ulstein Middle East, a Norwegian headquartered Ship Designer & Shipbuilder, and the sales manager at Albwardy Marine Engineering. Prior to migrating to Dubai in June 2003, I was a Marine Engineer and served in various capacities on board ships for 10 years.

I have also been the Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) UAE branch since September 2012 – a body which promotes knowledge, sharing & learning opportunities within the Middle East maritime fraternity.

I chose to study at the University of Tasmania because...

The AMC is a world-renowned institution which provided access to professionally qualified engineers, and a strong practical approach to complement our technical and generic skills.

At university I was inspired by …

The professionally-experienced teaching and research staff with strong industry links and the excellent facilities, such as the Engine Room simulator and Model Test Basin provided us with new knowledge for future engineering systems.

AMC was at the forefront of innovation creating pivotal technologies that educated engineers to possess not only deep technical excellence, but the creativity and cultural awareness that come from exposure to a globally recognised centre for maritime excellence.

I am proud of The University of Tasmania because...

It has an international reputation for delivering world-class, research-based maritime education to students. The learning opportunities stimulate a professional culture and help create a solid foundation for seafarers, facilitating them to sail today’s technologically-advanced ships, safely and efficiently.

The AMC’s level of credibility and recognition in the industry has contributed to my professional development during my career.

Professionally my proudest achievements are…

As Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE Branch, I have won several awards: IMarEST worldwide ‘Marine Ambassador’ at the inaugural Outstanding Contribution Awards in 2017 in London, IMarEST President’s Commendation Award for 2016, recognizing exceptional service to the organization, ‘Maritime Education & Training Award’ at The Maritime Standard Awards 2015 in Dubai.

Today I'm motivated by…

The voluntary work I do towards the development of the regional maritime cluster. As the Honorary Secretary of the UAE Branch, I remain steadfast in the IMarEST’s commitment to work with regional marine communities augmenting the development of marine engineering, science and technology. As the Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE Branch, I have a feeling of empowerment whilst being of service to the close-knit Middle East maritime community.

My dream job would be…

To secure a senior management position, in a creditable marine company, with considerable advancement opportunities, in a business development capacity and with an emphasis on strategic planning.
