Terry Aulich

The Hon Terry Aulich

Bachelor of Arts 1966

I am currently …

Director of Aulich & Co, strategic advisors to Not for Profits and commercial organisations. Director and writer of Tassie Pine, internet social and political satire series. International chair of Biometrics Institute Privacy Experts Group, Chair of Australian Market and Social Research Organisation’s Privacy Group, Chair of Clubs NSW Code Authority (probity monitors for most clubs in NSW, sporting, service or recreational)

I chose to study at the University of Tasmania because…

It was my home state.

At university I was inspired by …

Some lecturers like the poet James McAuley, history lecturers like Michael Rowe and others.

I am proud of my University because...

I'm Tasmanian.

Professionally my proudest achievements are...

Being State Minister for Education and playing a role in saving the Franklin River from flooding for a dam. As a Tasmanian Senator, helping to bring in Privacy legislation that gave Australia a Privacy Act and anti-fraud measures like the 100 points bank identification system. In addition I chaired the ALP caucus committee that led to gay defence force members being permitted to remain legally in the defence forces.

Today I'm motivated by…

Future thinking to make Tasmania and Australia leaders rather than followers.

My dream job would be…

I have it now. I get to work overseas in the UK and France on projects that fascinate me because they are about analysing trends and being ahead of the game in privacy issues and business opportunities.

My best piece of advice to current and future students is…

Question, be curious and enjoy learning for its own sake.
