University Quarry Booking Procedures and Conditions of Hire

The University Quarry is located at Proctors Road near the University's Sandy Bay Campus and may be used for activities such as abseiling and rock climbing.

The University Quarry is surrounded by a security fence and gate. For legal reasons relating to the University's potential exposure to negligence claims, approval to enter the enclosure or to use the facility must be obtained from the Director of Asset Management Services.

Approval

To gain approval to use the University Quarry a Quarry Application and Indemnity Form must be completed. By signing this form, the Occupier indemnifies the University against any liability whatsoever to any person, firm, body, instrumentality or company in respect of any claim, demand, dispute or proceedings of whatever nature for loss or damage, including personal injury, resulting from or arising out of or as a consequence of the Occupier's occupation of the quarry, or occurring while the occupier is in occupation of the quarry, and caused by any cause whatsoever including the negligence of the owner. The Occupier accepts full responsibility for each person occupying the quarry during the approved period of occupation.

Please note that each occupation of the University Quarry site is treated as an independent event requiring approval and as a consequence a Form of Indemnity must be completed for each event.

Please allow at least 5 working days for the approval process.

Requirement for Public Liability Insurance

All users of University venues must be covered by an appropriate public liability insurance policy. The user must provide evidence of a current public liability insurance policy for an amount not less than $10m. Please include details of this insurance with your Quarry Application and Indemnity Form.

Schools/Sections of the University and Club & Societies officially affiliated with the University are automatically covered by the University insurance policy and are not required to provide evidence of cover.

Gaining Access to Quarry

If the application is approved by the Director of Asset Management Services, the occupier will receive confirmation of this approval in writinjg. Asset Management Services will then inform the University's Security Control Room to arrange for a guard to be in attendance at the quarry at the required time to allow entry. Occupiers should bring the approval form, the Form of Indemnity and adequate identification (ie. drivers licence) to the quarry site.
