Outdoor Venues

The following outdoor venues are available for booking: the University Quarry, the Hytten Hall BBQ area, and the Amphitheatre on the Sandy Bay Campus and the Queen Elizabeth Way area on the Newnham Campus.

The University has a number of outdoor venues listed below that are available for use by staff, students and approved public organisations

The Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre is situated behind the Arts Lecture Theatre on the Sandy Bay Campus. It is an unroofed open-air structure that has steeply stepped sides without handrails. The area is available for use by University staff, affiliated Student Clubs and Societies, and other approved applicants for activities such as drama productions. Users should note that surfaces underfoot may be rough and uneven and that the approaches to the Amphitheatre are unpaved. There is no disabled access. There is no provision for lighting. Hytten Hall Barbeque

The Hytten Hall Barbecue site is in a bush setting near Hytten Hall on the Sandy Bay Campus. The site includes seating and tables for approximately 60 people and is available for use by University staff, affiliated Student Clubs and Societies, and other approved applicants. There is a power outlet that is activated for booked events. The University will provide firewood for the Barbecue but at least one week’s notice must be provided. University Quarry

The University Quarry is located at Proctors Road near the University's Sandy Bay Campus and may be used for activities such as abseiling and rock climbing.

The Quarry is surrounded by a security fence and gate. For legal reasons relating to the University's potential exposure to negligence claims, approval to enter the enclosure or to use the facility must be obtained from the Director of Asset Management Services. Stalls

Stalls are usually set up by affiliated Student Clubs and Societies as part of their Orientation activities at the beginning of the academic semester. Requests are also received from time to time from external organisations for purposes of fund raising.
