The studio is on the top floor of the building with views across the Hobart Waterfront to the Tasman Bridge and the Derwent River. It comprises a large flexible First Year space with ample wall space, tables and easels. There are discreet shared studio spaces for Second and Third year students whilst Honours students occupy individual open studios.
All studio spaces have access to storage facilities and are flooded with natural light. The open-plan of the studio encourages exchange between students working across all levels whilst also maintaining individual working environments.
Painting is still a dominant paradigm within contemporary art practice and has a long and varied tradition within the visual arts. Within the studio, the practice of painting is considered within the broader context of contemporary visual culture, and all techniques and approaches are encouraged through experimentation and exploration.
