The Photography studio provides students with the opportunity to explore and develop their own conceptual and visual potential through the use and understanding of the medium. Students are introduced to a wide variety of technical skills using light-sensitive materials and camera-generated images, and are encouraged to use this knowledge in furthering the individual expression of their own concepts and concerns.
Preconceived notions of photography are continually challenged as students progress through an active lecture, workshop and critique program. The flexible nature of the program encourages a diverse and innovative range of work and experimentation.
A broad range of technical approaches are embraced; spanning traditional analogue silver based, chromogenic colour, and digital print processes. The large open plan of the Photography Studio includes a teaching / critique area, analogue darkrooms, film processing and print mounting facilities, controlled lighting studio, and a state of the art digital darkroom and print room specialising in fine art ink-jet prints up to 1 x 2 metres in scale.
