Experiment with diverse practical and conceptual approaches to making sculpture and installation.
Guided by staff and technicians, in the context of a studio/workshop/tutorial curriculum, you will be introduced to traditional techniques, new technologies and contemporary approaches to sculpture and installation.
The Sculpture Studio includes a wax room, plaster room, kiln room, courtyard for large scale outdoor works, and an open plan first year space.
Second and third year sculpture students have dedicated studio spaces and every student is allocated a locker and basic storage facilities.
The Sculpture Studio is well equipped to handle large scale and/or heavy works with loading bays, cranes and various trolley systems. This studio co-joins the metal and wood workshops, and students have access to a wide range of tools and equipment through the sculpture technician who has an office on site.
The studio houses a recycling resource area where sculpture students from all years are able to contribute and collect materials, and a kitchenette/lounge area, with catalogue library, where students can meet, read and relax.
Sculpture... self-directed learning, collaboration and cross-disciplinary engagement delivered, choreographed and critiqued to reflect the breadth of contemporary practice.
The first year sculpture unit introduces students to 3D problem-solving and experimentation, and a diverse range of materials, techniques and concepts.
Second year is choreographed to progress students towards independent learning with a view to developing their ability to find their own creative voice, emphasising self directed experimentation and research.
The third year, is designed to develop students’ creative focus working towards consolidating and presenting their vision.
