Rebecca Shanahan is a Sydney-based artist working across photography, photographic installation and video. Her work has been exhibited most recently at UTS Gallery, Sydney; Kings ARI, Melbourne; Incinerator Gallery, Victoria and screened at the Goat Farm Arts Center, Atlanta, USA. Currently completing a residency at the remote New South Wales gold town of Hill End, she is a photography lecturer at the National Art School in Sydney and has just enrolled as a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney.
Rebecca’s presentation will consider two recent projects that have emerged from core interests in absence and transience, loss and flux. The works take mundane public and private spaces, actions and objects as subject matter and pay close attention to what may often be overlooked or dismissed, inviting an affective response.
