Mick Douglas makes socially-engaged art projects in the public domain. His recent work explores inter-relationships between aesthetic experiences of mobility, cultural change practices and performative encounters – a field he describes as ‘Cultural Transports’. His practice involves him working across roles, disciplines and interest groups to develop artforms engaging with movement, hospitality and cosmopolitanism. He is founder of arts groups Tramtactic and Performing Mobilities Network, and co-founder of Urban Interior research group, and is senior lecturer in the School of Architecture & Design at RMIT University Melbourne.
In this Art Forum presentation, carriage: cultural transports and transformations of socially-engaged public art, Mick examines how the performative turn has seen an increasing level of socially-engaged art and design practices develop public domain projects where concerns shift from representation to demonstration of relations.
