Noel Frankham was appointed as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Arts in August 2012. He has been Professor of Art and Head of School, Tasmanian School of Art, University of Tasmania from February 2002 until August 2012. Previously he was Professor and Head of School with the South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia (June 1999 to January 2002). This followed four and a half years as Director of Object – Australian Centre for Craft and Design. Prior to Object, Frankham was the Director of the Australia Council’s Visual Arts/Craft Board (1989 to 1994), which followed two and a half years as a project officer and then a program manager. Frankham was Extension Services Officer with the Queensland Art Gallery’s Education Section prior to joining the Australia Council. Frankham completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts – Photog.) TCAE, in 1981.
Noel Frankham’s research interests include curatorial practice, especially site-specific exhibitions relating to historically and environmentally significant places; arts policy and funding; visual arts infrastructure (especially organisational change and development); public art and design; craft and design development (in the context of fine art dominance); and cultural export. He has undertaken a number of significant research and review projects for state and federal governments, often in partnership with colleagues.

Noel Frankham supervises honours, coursework and research postgraduate students and teaches and coordinates the undergraduate unit, FST217/317 Professional Practices (Business Skills).
