Journalism, Media & Communications Field Trip "Cool Japan: Regional Soft Power in Asia"
Study Soft Power & Media in Japan
Critically examine the commercial, community and political media practices and spaces that contribute to the construction of 'Cool Japan'. Conduct individual and team-based fieldwork in Japan as you apply concepts such as 'soft power' and 'media mix'. Explore how media can be used to shape perceptions of a country. Fieldwork locations will vary but may include animation studios, cosplay performance spaces, fan conventions, architectural walking tours, museum and gallery visits, as well as investigating notable subculture locations.
