As Dean of the Faculty of Arts I am pleased to extend to you a very warm welcome to the Faculty of Arts website and to encourage you to explore our Faculty and its fantastic diversity of opportunities.
Here you will find much information about our academic programs, our staff, our Schools, our research, our international profile and our partnerships. Please browse through our site, and use the contact names if you have any questions.
Faculty of Arts students and academics can be found on all three main UTAS campuses — Sandy Bay in Hobart, Newnham in Launceston, and the Cradle Coast Campus in Burnie. Arts programs are also presented at city sites in Hobart — the Conservatorium of Music on Sandy Bay Road and the Centre for the Arts on Hunter Street — and at the Academy of Arts at the Inveresk precinct in Launceston.
Our Faculty has a long tradition of excellence in education and research. Our academics are recognised and have won awards for their high quality teaching and the promotion of a rewarding and critically informed learning experience. Academics in the Faculty actively pursue research and scholarship related to their teaching, and researchers in the Faculty contribute to local and international debates in their areas of expertise, and bring that knowledge and experience into their teaching programs. The Faculty also reaches out to the community through performances, exhibitions, public lectures and community-based research.
The Faculty aims to provide a rich environment for students to learn at every level and to offer a flexible course structure, allowing students to pursue the disciplines and areas that interest them in a number of ways. Our degree structures allow students to design the course they need for their future. Students can complete more than one Major of study, providing graduates with broad expertise that equips them to adapt to the rapidly changing global environment, while also fostering the skills needed for pursuing research at a higher level.
We are proud of our students and of those who support their education and we encourage you to take the opportunity to find out more about the Faculty through this website. I know that you will find something here to engage your imagination and stimulate your thinking.
