The societies of ancient Greece and Rome have made a fundamental contribution to the development of western civilisation and have had a profound effect and influence on contemporary world history.
The roots of western literature, drama, philosophy and history lie to a large part in these ancient civilisations.
You'll study the history, archaeology, literature, art and material remains of the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean. It aims to both impart knowledge and stimulate your enquiry about the human past.
Historical documents and literary works are studied in translation, so that no knowledge of the original language is required.

Undergraduate courses with a specialisation in Ancient Civilisations:
Ancient Civilisations can also been undertaken as student electives from other courses across the University of Tasmania and is a complimentary area of study for students undertaking vocationally oriented degree programs such as Social Science, Education, Science and Tourism.
Postgraduate courses with a specialisation in Ancient Civilisations:
