Australia is uniquely placed to benefit from its close proximity to Asia. Becoming 'Asia literate' will help you both understand and benefit from the growing importance of Asia to Australia and the world.
You'll learn about diverse and interesting Asian countries and cultures, as well as the interactions between Australia and Asia.
This is a cross-disciplinary major, so that in addition to the range of units offered by Asian Studies staff, units can be undertaken over many areas including politics, philosophy, geography and art. Units from Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian studies can also form part of your Asian Studies major.
Plus you have the opportunity to complete a professional placement in Asia as part of your degree.
Potential graduate career pathways:
Undergraduate courses with a specialisation in Asian Studies:
Asian Studies can also been undertaken as student electives from other courses across the University of Tasmania and is a complimentary area of study for students undertaking vocationally oriented degree programs such as Social Science, Law, Business and Tourism.
Postgraduate courses with a specialisation in Asian Studies:
The units on offer for Asian Studies vary each Semester, please refer to the Course and Unit Handbook for current unit offerings.
