Studies focus on four subject areas, which are related because of their complementary concern for the study of Earth, its human and non-human inhabitants, and their interactions and relationships. The four areas are: human geography; physical geography; spatial sciences; and environmental management and planning.
On completion of your studies, you'll have gained a mix of specific skills, including: mapping and monitoring environments; understanding people's connection to place; fieldwork in urban, rural and wild places; and planning and management.
Areas of concentrated study range from: phenomena in the physical environment such as landforms, climate and vegetation; spatial behaviour of individuals and organisations; interaction of human beings with the physical environment; planning implications; estimating the desirable characteristics of nature reserves; to policies for housing and land-use in the inner city.
