Application for Credit

In some cases, you may be able to apply for credit for your previous studies. An Application for Credit is an application used to request official permission to count a unit or subject passed at another tertiary institution or passed in a different course at this University, towards the course for which you are now applying. For example, you may have passed some units towards a Bachelor of Arts (BA) at another university and are now applying to study the BA at the University of Tasmania. If you claim credit you may be granted an exemption from equivalent units in the BA at this university.

If you wish to be assessed for credit you will need to submit an Application for Credit form together with the following supporting documents. Credit applications should be lodged with the Student Centre, University of Tasmania, Private Bag 45, Hobart TAS 7001.

Supporting Documentation:

University or Equivalent Tertiary Qualifications

* Academic transcript -- preferably an original or a certified copy (meaning copy of the original signed by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner of Declarations).

* Rules of the degree under which the units you are seeking credit for were completed.

For example, if you completed units in the BA degree at Monash University in 1992-93, you will need to supply the 1992 Rules of the BA degree at Monash University.

* If you are seeking specific credit, for example credit for first year Political Science (25%), you will also need to attach:

Unit descriptions from the relevant yearly Handbook, for units you wish to have considered for credit. For example, if you are seeking credit for units completed in say 1992-93, descriptions of units taken in 1992 must come from the 1992 Handbook and units completed in 1993 must come from the 1993 Handbook, etc.

Descriptions should comprise of (1) a description of the unit (2) weighting/credit point value (3) assessment ie. exam (70%), practical work (30%) and (4) teaching pattern ie Semester 1 with 3 hour lectures and 1 hour tutorial per week.

Tafe Qualifications

* The Faculty of Arts will only consider credit for completed 2 year full-time TAFE qualifications at a Diploma level. If the diploma has been awarded, you must include with your credit application a certified copy of the certificate (certified meaning a copy of the original signed by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner of Declarations).
