Overview:
CEH is an exciting initiative of the Faculty of Arts, offering honours students internships in outstanding cultural institutions located within the extraordinary cultural environments of Tasmania. Each year, successful applicants undertake their honours research under the joint supervision of an academic from their home discipline and a specialist from the cultural institution.
This year, students in English, Creative Writing, and Journalism, Media and Communications have worked with the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office, the Port Arthur Historical Site Management Authority, Narryna Heritage Museum, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery and the Morris Miller Library. They have studied nineteenth-century diaries, ghosts, convicts and a famous Tasmanian musical family, and on September 26 will give presentations based on their work-in-progress.
The information session is also an opportunity for prospective honours students (in disciplines offered within the Faculty of Arts, including Aboriginal Studies, Classics, English, History, Journalism and Media Studies, and Sociology) to learn about next year’s CEH offerings and the generous scholarships that are available to successful students. More information about the program is available from http://colonial.arts.utas.edu.au/cehhomepage.html
