Welcome to the Australian School of Fine Furniture

The Australian School of Fine Furniture understands the growth in interest in furniture as a means of personal expression, as an art form, as a craft and as a utilitarian component of the built environment, indoors and out.

The ASFF recognises the cultural and commercial challenges in furniture design and production and the increasing opportunity to incorporate principles of sustainable living into the process.

The future of furniture is strongly connected to the development of technologies that will impact on the materials selected; the design process and production, and we embrace and lead in these areas.

Our Vision

Our vision is for the Australian School of Fine Furniture to become the nation's premier preparatory school for the global furniture industry.

Our intensive and dynamic course structure is augmented by visiting guest lecturers who are practicing leaders in the Australian Furniture Industry. Our students graduate with a solid foundation in traditional making skills and a wide-ranging knowledge of materials, process and design.

Our Mission

Our mission is to invest students with the skills, techniques and knowledge to design and fabricate fine furniture.

Our graduates will be able to;

  • integrate with any approach to the industry, from craft based practice to industrial manufacture
  • contribute to the local and global industry at any level of the process from making through to design
  • understand the environmental and ecological impacts of different approaches to designing and manufacturing
  • understand the demands of employers and have an appreciation of the requirements of self employment, and
  • have a sound foundation in university education allowing future opportunities for further study
