The Asian Languages and Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program that provides students with a strong basis for undergraduate and higher degree learning across a range of topics in North East, East and South East Asia. Staff have specialty expertise across these regions – including selected languages of the region - and look forward to sharing this with students. A range of offerings permits students to undertake a specific area focus, a more general Asian Studies focus, or a combination of both.
We are passionate about Asian studies - integrated studies of the cultures, societies and languages of Asia - and are committed to sharing and developing in students the same passion and insight into Asia. We run strong learning programs in languages– Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian – and in Asian Studies. Our language programs develop students’ skills in all four skill sets – reading, writing, speaking and listening – from beginner to advanced. The programs aim at developing a deep understanding of not only the language, but the society and culture behind it.
Our teaching staff in all areas have awards for Teaching Excellence in recognition of their commitment to the student experience.
