Yoji greatly enjoys teaching Japanese language and culture. In 2007 Yoji received a UTAS Teaching Excellence Award in recognition of his good teaching practices. He is also a recipient of numerous UTAS Teaching Merit Certificates. He was trained as a teacher of Japanese at the International Education Center and National Language Research Institute, both in Tokyo.
He has extensive experience in textbook development. He was co-author, audio-visual material developer and voice actor in textbook series including Situational Functional Japanese (Tokyo: Bojinsha, 1992) and IMA! (Melbourne: Heinemann, 1999-2000).
