Helmut joined the AIRC in February 2013. He graduated at Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany, with a Diploma in Economics and holds a PhD from Leuphana University of Lüneburg. In his PhD thesis, Helmut examined the long-term export behaviour of high-tech start-up companies in Germany and the UK and analysed the impact of export activities on start-up's performance. Prior to his move to the AIRC, Helmut worked for 14 years at the ZEW Centre for European Economic Research, Department of Industrial Economics and International Management, in Mannheim, Germany.
Helmut's research focuses on impact assessments of government innovation support programmes, and analysis of private sector innovations. His research interests also cover innovation activities in newly founded companies, knowledge and technology transfer from Universities and the private sector to start-ups, and the internationalisation process of companies.
