Dr Ann Torugsa presented a research paper (co-authored with Professor Anthony Arundel) titled "Private-Public Collaboration and Innovation Performance: Does Training Matter?" at the 5th ISPIM Innovation Symposium - Stimulating Innovation: Challenges for Management, Science and Technology - in Seoul, Korea, 9th-12th December 2012. This paper is based on the 2010 Tasmanian Innovation Census data.

Professor Anthony Arundel participated in the Technical Reference Group meeting for DIISRTE's Australian Public Sector Innovation Indicators (APSII) project in Canberra. He presented preliminary results of an analysis of a pilot survey on innovation in the Australian Public Sector. The survey is part of ongoing research at the AIRC.

Professor Anthony Arundel participated in a policy workshop for Malaysian higher education officials in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The training program was organised by the United Nations University. Professor Arundel gave a lecture on "Intellectual Property and Innovation: The role of the Public Research Sector". The lecture used past research, including results of the 2012 survey of European KTOs, to illustrate the potential and problems associated with commercialising knowledge produced in the higher education sector.

Kieran O'Brien delivered a presentation to the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts (DEDTA) on the results of two modules of the AIRC/DEDTA Baseline Survey project - the module on regulatory burden, and the module on small business internet usage in Tasmania.

Professor Anthony Arundel gave a presentation at the 5th International Technology Transfer Conference (ITTC) in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The presentation was titled "Results of the 2011 Survey of European Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs)", part of a collaborative research project with colleagues at UNU-MERIT in The Netherlands.

Kieran O'Brien delivered a presentation titled "Export and Innovation indicators for priority sectors in Tasmania: Results from the 2010 Tasmanian Innovation Census" to the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts' Hobart and Burnie offices.

Professor Anthony Arundel participated in Eurostat's Working Group Meeting on Statistics on Science, Technology and Innovation, held in Luxembourg. He gave a presentation titled "Cognitive Testing for CIS-2012".

Kieran O'Brien presented a research paper (co-authored by Professor Anthony Arundel, Kieran O'Brien, and Dr Ann Torugsa), titled "Errors in the inerpretation of innovation, results from an Australian innovation survey", at the Seventh Interdisciplinary Conference on Social Sciences in Barcelona, Spain.

Kieran O'Brien delivered a presentation to the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts' Sourthern, Northern and North West Regional Reference Groups (RRGs) titled "Export and Innovation Indicators for Priority Sectors in Tasmania". The RRGs consist of representatives from Federal, State and Local Governments, as well as local development authorities, and Tasmanian business and industry.

Dr Colin Jones gave a presentation titled "Enterprise Education: World domination or humiliation?" at the 57th International Council for Small Business World Conference, held in Wellington, New Zealand.

Professors Paul Robertson and Anthony Arundel were participants in GovCamp, which was part of Public Sector Innovation Week (held from the 4th to the 8th of June, 2012). GovCamp included a workshop for academics involved in public sector innovation, and was held at the University of Canberra.

AIRC Honorary Fellow Professor Ian Marsh gave a presentation for the ANZSOG Institute for Governance's Research Seminar Series titled "Fixing the economy, destroying the polity: Australia since 1983". The presentation explores the transformation of Australia's economic structure following the election of the Labor government in 1983, as well as other changes such as new levels of differentiation of attitudes and identities in Australian society, and new policy imperatives associated with globalisation and domestic social change.

Honorary Fellow Professor Ian Marsh spoke at a workshop in Jakarta on the DPD (Upper House, Indonesian Parliament). Professor Marsh's contribution was sponsored by the Centre for Democratic Institutions at the Australian National University.

Professor Anthony Arundel gave an invited seminar at the University of Torino titled "How European public sector agencies innovate: lessons for improving the innovative capabilities of the public sector".

Professor Anthony Arundel gave a presentation to the Directorate of Research and Innovation, European Commission, titled "The performance of European Knowledge Transfer Offices KTOs)". The results were based on a survey of the activities of 430 KTOs in 33 European countries in 2010.

Dr Colin Jones presented a paper titled "Franchisation: Understanding Local Processes" at the 1st Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship Research Exchange Conference, held in Fremantle, WA.

Professor Jonathan West gave a presentation at the Grattan Conference in Melbourne. The theme of the conference was Federal Public Policy formation, and Professor West spoke on policy formation and economic development.

Dr Colin Jones has been invited to present a workshop titled "Ten major reasons that should return orgnaizational ecology to the drawing board" at the Max Planck Institute for Economics in Jena, Germany.
