Economics and Finance

Economics and Finance have been taught at the University of Tasmania for over one hundred years, contributing to State and national policy and decision making in many areas of economic activity, as well as producing many distinguished graduates.

The Economics and Finance teaching program covers the breadth of the disciplines, from macroeconomic issues in monetary and fiscal policy and international financial markets, to microeconomic issues of consumer behaviour, financial institutions, derivatives securities, market structures, individual choices and the management of our resources, including fisheries and forests. Our researchers focus on evidence-based decision making, with an emphasis on using the best available data with modern analytical techniques.

Our Economics research output is ranked as world-class by the Australian Research Council and in the top 400 Economic schools worldwide by the QS World University rankings.
