Ruth Oettle grew up in Hobart and attended UTAS from 2002, graduating in 2006 with a combined BA-BEc. She completed a Masters in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science (MSc) at the University of Lund in Sweden, and her thesis examined the critical features of a third party in facilitating a transaction in the market for environmental offsets. She returned from Sweden in 2009, and worked at Questacon (the National Science and Technology Centre) travelling around schools talking to students about science, technology and innovation. She successfully applied for and completed the Treasury Graduate program at the Federal Department of Treasury in Canberra in 2011, and now works in the Fiscal Group primarily looking at Indigenous affairs.
