Module 6 - Constructing a logical argument

Certain words are used to create an argument or ‘thesis’ in your writing. Most essays require an argument or thesis: what is your ‘take’ on the topic?

Once you have done enough reading it will usually become clear what your argument will be. Start to formulate your view in one or two sentences

A useful start is to say to yourself: “My argument is that …” This is a way to begin clarifying your stance and the argument that your writing must present. You won’t usually say these exact words in your essay.

Essential Activities

Next Module: Linking ideas using paragraph and sub-section structure
