The following information has been prepared to help you complete the enrolment process. Please be pro-active in finding out how to enrol correctly and if in doubt ask questions. We will be happy to help you.
The enrolment process is an extremely important one that needs to be given due care and attention. You need to ensure that your enrolment is correct and to be aware of the consequences of any variation to your enrolment. You must also understand that there are both financial and academic implications associated with your enrolment.

STEPS TO ENROL
1. Familiarise yourself with the rules of your degree
Each degree has course specifications (ie rules for completion) together with a schedule of units which are the principle references that should be used when choosing your units. You should read the course structure information together with the schedules before selecting your units.
Access the University homepage HERE
- select the link to Course and Units under the Information About heading
- select the year you commenced your major (or if no major then the year you commenced your degree)
- select the Business study area from the list of Study Areas and Courses
- select the link or the degrees you are taking, for example Bachelor of Business (G3F)
- select the tab for Structure and Schedule, which appears directly under the heading of the degree
- select a link under the Schedules heading for information about units in a particular major or year level of the course
2. Work out which units you will study in your degree. Remember to check any compulsory units which must be taken for your degree
3. Complete your enrolment
Students are able to enrol online through the eStudent Centre. Select the Unit Code, Semester, Attendance Code (A = on campus, D = study by distance education) and Study Centre (H = Hobart, L = Launceston, W = Cradle Coast). Also fill out your expected graduation semester and year, and your major, if known.
If enrolling using an enrolment form write your Unit Codes, Unit Titles, Semester, Attendance Code (A = on campus, D = study by distance education) and Study Centre on the form.((H = Hobart, L = Launceston, W = Cradle Coast). Also fill out your expected graduation semester and year.
There will be an opportunity for you to vary your enrolment, should you change your mind about your unit selection. You can vary your enrolment any time up until the Census Date without any penalties, providing you have the Unit Co-ordinator’s and Faculty Officer’s approval for addition of units after Week 2 of semester.
4. COURSE APPROVAL - A Faculty Officer will check your enrolment to make sure it is correct
Students who have enrolled online will have their enorlment checked and approved electronically.
If you enrol in person using an enrolment form, a Faculty Officer will sign your form once it has been checked and approved.
Faculty Officers check the followng aspects of your enrolment:
- that you are not taking any units you shouldn't be
- that you meet the requirements for your major(s) and the rules of the degree
- that you have met the pre-requisites/s of the units in which you are enrolling
- that you are on track to graduate at the date you have nominated.
Adding units after the end of Week 2 of semester requires written approval from the Unit Co-ordinator and a Faculty Officer.
You should regularly check the approval status of your enrolment on the eStudent Centre.
Course Approval Status “NOT APPROVED”
If your enrolment course approval status shows as Not Approved you need to be pro-active and contact a Faculty Officer urgently to resolve any problems with your enrolment. You are advised to resolve enrolment issues as soon as they are detected, and you should be aware that Census Date for each semester is the last date to withdraw from a unit without financial penalty. Enrolment errors may result in unnecessary academic or financial penalties, and may also delay your graduation.
Course Approval Status “APPROVED”
If all of the above details have been checked and there are no enrolment problems, the Faculty Officer will mark your Course Approval Status as “Approved” and you need take no further action. Any future amendments that you make to your enrolment will be subject to re-assessment by the Faculty office for course approval.
Course Approval Status “NOT YET APPROVED"
This message indicates that Faculty staff have not yet assessed your enrolment for course approval. Check your course approval status regularly to ensure that your enrolment is approved prior to Census Date. For enrolment advice please contact the relevant Faculty Officer. Contact details are below.
Students who have enrolled on a paper form will need to have a Faculty Officer sign their enrolment form to gain overall course approval. If you are a combined degree student, eg BA-BBus, BBus-LLB, you will need to obtain overall course approval for each component of the combined degree. This also applies to any enrolment variations. In most cases this will involve two faculties eg for BA-BBus approval will be required from both the Arts & Business faculties.
Only a Business Faculty Officer is authorised to sign off on Faculty of Business degrees
5. Special Approval
Is required from a Faculty Officer if an overload is to be attempted (ie more than 50% in a semester).
Waivers of pre-requisites require Faculty Officer approval following a recommendation from the Major Co-ordinator.
6. Applications for Credit
Students seeking credit for previous study must submit an application for credit and supporting documentation to the Faculty Office for consideration well in advance of the census date. Credit cannot be processed where documentation is incomplete. It can take up to 4 weeks for credit to be processed.
7. Census Dates
| Semester 1: 23 March 2009 |
Semester 2: 10 August 2009 |
8. Graduation Details
It is of utmost importance that you register your expected completion date as this can impact on when you graduate. Delays in graduation could result if this information is not completed or if it is incorrect. You should revise your graduation details, if required, during the period of enrolment. You can update your graduation details online through the eStudent Centre.
9. Personal Details
Students must keep the University informed of their personal details (addresses, telephone contacts, citizenship etc.) particularly if these should change after your last enrolment. Your contact details are important should we find it necessary to get in touch with you. The other main means of communication is email.
You should check your email account at least once a week as important information regarding your enrolment may be sent to it.
10. CONFIRMATION of ENROLMENT
Within 24-48 hours of enrolling online you can confirm your enrolment through the Current Details web page on eStudentCentre. This page lists the degree you are studying, all the units you have enrolled in, the semester in which you are enrolling and whether your attendance for classes is on-campus or you are studying off-campus. Treat this web page like a credit card statement – it’s that important! Read it carefully to make sure no errors have been made. It is your responsibility to advise Student Centre if there is an error. If at any time you want to print a hard copy of your enrolment you can do so by clicking on the Print Form option.
11. Deferring an enrolment
There are forms that must be completed to advise us if you wish to defer your enrolment (new students) or to take a leave of absence (continuing students) from study for a period of up to 12 months.
These Forms are available online on the University's Current Students website.
International students should seek advice from International Services Office in the first instance as the above information may not apply to them.
If in doubt Ask questions
The best person to ask about your enrolment is the relevant Faculty Officer. The table below shows who to ask for help and advice.
A schedule of Student Consultation Times can be downloaded and you can check the Faculty’s Current Students webpage for other student related information.
