Marketing has emerged as one of the most important business disciplines over the past 30 years. Central to its emergence is the recognition that marketers (and effective marketing programs) have the ability to make a positive difference to both businesses, and the community within which they operate. The Marketing Major major provides students with the skills necessary to plan, organise and control marketing activities efficiently in a highly competitive environment, through both theoretical understanding and practical experience. Current students (and indeed graduands!) have the opportunity to join the Australian Marketing Institute and gain further benefits from networking with some of Tasmania's most successful practitioners.
Students are also able (encouraged in fact) to enter the "Jump Start" marketing competition, whereby student groups are able to work with a major employer within the state to analyse, plan, and implement a marketing solution to a real-world opportunity. Essentially, a Marketing Major equips you with the skills and abilities necessary for a fulfilling career in a range of business and public sector settings. By selecting appropriate elective courses, students can direct their studies towards individual career interests such as:

- Customer service manager
- Sales manager
- Advertising executive
- Market researcher
- Public affairs officer
- Public relations officer
