The Graduate Certificate of Tourism Management is designed specifically for business professionals requiring specialist tourism knowledge. It provides the opportunity to develop new skills or upgrade knowledge in tourism management. The course addresses the challenges for sustainable tourism and effective destination management, as well as global issues relating to tourism.
The course provides a strong focus on destination management and sustainable tourism in the dynamic tourism environment. Graduates will be better equipped to provide leadership and manage effectively within the tourism profession. Electives enable students to choose to focus on areas of professional knowledge which will complement their tourism expertise in areas such as marketing, human resources, finance, strategic and environmental management.
Students are required to complete four two core units and two elective units successfully.
There are no formal arrangements in place but it is anticipated that successful completion of the course will help graduates improve or formalise their qualifications leading to confirmation or promotion within their employment, or new employment opportunities within the industry.
Successfully completed postgraduate units in other courses at the University of Tasmania or another approved tertiary institution may be credited towards the degree. Credit is also available for some qualifications attained through professional bodies, where these have been assessed as equivalent to postgraduate study. Please apply for credit at the time of application for admission.
