Description

This degree consists of 14 units of credit that students gain from a completed Advanced Diploma in Hospitality or its equivalent, as well as 10 specified University of Tasmania units which are studied over 3 semesters (spring/summer, Semester 1 and 2).

This program provides an opportunity for students to combine an advanced diploma in hospitality studies with a focused study of complementary units. This degree has been designed to produce future leaders for the hospitality industry. The degree provides students with the broadest possible career options by combining essential business knowledge and expertise which encompasses areas such as accounting and finance, marketing, economics, human resources, international business and management – with specialised hospitality studies. Students will develop practical and specific workplace skills as ell as a sound understanding of hotel management processes and strategies that are required for best practice management in hospitality enterprises.

Students are required to complete 10 units of study in the following disciplines:

  • Human Resource Management
  • Marketing
  • International Business
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Workplace Relations
  • Communications

Opportunities for graduates with management and hospitality skills are
excellent and employment within the sphere of tourism and hospitality is
vast. As a graduate of this degree you  will have the knowledge and expertise
to work in such diverse sectors such as:

Graduates will be eligible to apply for membership status in the Catering Institute of Australia.

Students may receive credit or advanced standing for prior studies. This will be assessed at the time of application.

What subjects should I study at senior secondary level?

There are no specific prerequisite subjects for this degree but success in at the senior secondary level English and Business Studies would be advantageous.

How much time do I need to allocate for study?

Whether on-campus of off-campus, each student should allow approximately 10 hours of focussed study per unit, per week.
