Generic Graduate Attributes - Social Responsibility

Developing Understandings of Ethical Practice in the Legal Profession

Gino Dal Pont

School of Law

The main learning outcome is that students appreciate that being members of the legal profession is more about responsibility than about privilege, and that inherent in membership are basic tenets of honesty and unselfishness.

The Professional Conduct unit differs from other units in the law program by focussing explicitly on social responsibility and ethical behaviour in exercising legal judgements and dealing with clients. Gino describes his unit as an ‘attitudes' course, where students explore ethical dilemmas and develop intellectual tools and frameworks to resolve those dilemmas.
