Developing Oral Communication Skills in Law

Julia Davis

School of Law

Students are encouraged to build up a portfolio of their oral communications exercises and feedback sheets, so that they can keep track of their own development …'

A common complaint about law graduates is that, whilst they may know the law, they can't effectively communicate about the law. Julia outlines how the Law School is addressing this problem. Students are given ample opportunities to practise and build up their skills and confidence levels in a planned strategy from year 1 to final year. The value of oral presentations for assessment purposes is also highlighted.
