Generic Graduate Attributes - Global Perspective

Realising Diverse Client Contexts & Needs in the 'Learning-by-Making' Studio

Louise Wallis

School of Architecture

... a large percentage of our graduates work overseas or on international projects, so it is essential for them to identify and work with a broad range of [client] requirements.

The ‘Learning-by-Making' studio gives students the opportunity to bring together skills and understandings from other units in the Architecture degree in designing appropriately for cultural environments different from their own. Through pursuing small community projects, students get to work with clients that have diverse backgrounds and needs. An important part of the assessment is client satisfaction with resultant designs.
