Future Energy: Challenges and Opportunities - 11 August 2017

The goal of this workshop is to strengthen the existing collaboration as well as to establish new links with industry in the area of energy. Potential outcomes of the workshop are new contracts and research projects.

The workshop will have the following format:

12:30 – 13:00 – Light lunch

13:00 – 13:15 – Introduction (Michael Negnevitsky)

13:15 – 14:15 – 4-5 speakers (Industry) – problems and challenges (technology, integration of renewable sources, economy, market operation, consumer behaviour, potential effects of climate change, etc.)

14:15 – 15:00 – 3 speakers (University) – our capabilities (technology, integration of renewable sources, economy, market operation, consumer behaviour, potential effects of climate change, etc.) – Michael Negnevitsky, Mardi Dungey and Heather Lovell.

15:00 – 15:15 – afternoon tea and networking

15:15 – 16:30 – round table discussions (4 tables):

– Energy security in Tasmania (gas, basslink, climate change, energy options, etc.);

– Power system security (network observability, state estimation, risk assessment, etc.);

– Energy markets, economy;

– Demand side/consumer led solutions (demand response, energy storage, etc.).

16:30 – 17:00 – Reporting back from round-table discussions.

17:00 – 17:10 – Concluding remarks and outline of next steps (Michael Negnevitsky).

17:10 – 18:00 – Drinks and networking
