Moving from VET to higher education gives you a head start
The University of Tasmania (UTAS) welcomes students with vocational education qualifications from TAFE or other Registered Training Providers and recognises the importance of the learning you have already undertaken. In general UTAS offers credit if your TAFE/VET study:
Depending on the UTAS course, sometimes you will receive credit for specific UTAS units, and sometimes you will receive block credit for one or two semesters and will enter the course at a higher year level. This means fewer units to study and/or less time needed to complete your University study, which equals reduced study costs. In some cases there are additional benefits to VET students continuing with University study, such as guaranteed entry to your chosen UTAS course. Moving from VET to higher education means you gain practical and theoretical skills which increase your career opportunities.
How do I know what credit I would receive?
The University offers credit for VET qualifications at Diploma level and above, in a range of study areas. This includes qualifications gained from TasTAFE or other Registered Training Organisations in Tasmania, as well as some interstate VET providers.
Credit arrangements are listed in the credit and articulation database. You can search this database by the list of UTAS courses and credit offered below:
If there is no arrangement listed in the database for the VET course you have completed, you may still be entitled to credit. You should contact the relevant School or Faculty to discuss your case.
