Nicole commenced in the role of Campus Coordinator in the University of Tasmaniaâs University Preparation Program (UPP) in 2011. Based in Launceston, she coordinates and teaches UPP units to on-campus and distance students, and has a student-advisor role for UPP students. From 2008 until 2010, she was the Transition Coordinator in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Western Australia. This position involved: teaching credit-bearing units, which focused on academic skills; running support programs for Arts students, such as peer tutoring; coordinating an outreach program for year 11 high-school students; and, conducting research in teaching and learning. In addition, she taught in the disciplines of History and Women's Studies, the areas in which she completed her PhD in 2008.
Nicole has been the Tasmanian representative for the Association for Academic Language and Learning (AALL) since 2011. In 2012, she organised the UTAS/AALL-funded Social Inclusion Symposium.
Nicole's research interests include: bridging/transition programs; social inclusion; equity in relation to online learning; peer learning.
