Have you always dreamed about going to uni but didn't have the marks? Or have you been out of school for a while and would like to brush up on your academic skills before you start a degree?
If you are considering enrolling at UTAS but feel you may need additional skills, confidence and knowledge about university study before commencing a course, then the University Preparation Program (UPP) is for you.
UPP provides an alternative entry pathway into UTAS and it is free for eligible students.
UPP is designed particularly for:
The course aims to prepare students with the necessary skills to successfully complete university study. It also aims to build students' confidence to succeed and to enhance the quality of their initial experience of university life.
UPP offers a broad range of subjects designed to ensure students have the skills critical to success at UTAS. Units are offered in both first and second semester with each semester involving 13 weeks of study to complete the unit. Students may choose a maximum of 4 units each semester.
UPP offers the following units:
Units may be offered face-to-face or by distance, depending on your campus. Please check the Information Booklet (PDF 540KB) for details.
Units may not run if the minimum level of 15 students enrolled is not reached.
Please note: The use of technology is embedded into a range of teaching & learning activities in this course.
All students enrolled in UPP receive additional support through weekly Supported Studies sessions on each campus. These sessions are available to both distance and on campus students.
The delivery of Supported Studies sessions is through the units UPP001 Supported Studies 1 (Semester 1) and UPP002 Supported Studies 2 (Semester 2). These are support units only and do not include any assessment. Enrolment is automatic.
If you would like to speak to someone in more detail or would like an information pack sent to you, contact the UPP office in your region or your local Campus Coordinator (see Contact).
Please note: Summer School applicants should not complete the enrolment form. Apply for Summer School online in the same application as for your Semester 1 course, or contact UPP for assistance.
UPP support is offered on all three UTAS campuses:

AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY is available to students who are accepted into this course and meet appropriate criteria. You do not become liable under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) for this course.
Satisfactory completion of the UPP does not guarantee admission to any specific program at UTAS, but can be used to meet General Entry Requirements when applying for admission to the University. UPP provides a transcript indicating your achievement in various units. UPP units may count as credit towards the Bachelor of General Studies Foundation Year Pathways.
