Community Friends & Networks Programme

About Us

The Community Friends & Networks Programme (CFNP) is a new initiative at the University of white-logo-smallTasmania. In October 2008, the Business Faculty, International Services and Student Services commenced the Community Friendship Pilot Programme. The Community Friends & Networks Programme was launched in November 2009 and expands on the success of this initiative.

The programme seeks to support ‘new to town’ UTAS students to experience the real Tasmania during their stay, or as they build a permanent new life in the State. Those welcome to participate include international students, students newly arrived on a humanitarian visa, migrants, students from other parts of Australia, and students from regional Tasmania.

Essentially, CFNP is for anyone who is new to UTAS from outside Tasmania’s major cities and feels they would benefit from expanding their networks.  The list of ‘local friends’ include staff and students at the University and individuals and families from the wider Tasmanian community. CFNP is statewide and coordinated out of Launceston and Hobart.

CFNP volunteers are not expected to cover student expenses during  activities undertaken together. CFNP is not able to reimburse for expenses.

CFNP participants undergo a police check to ensure the safety of all who take part in the programme.

The CFNP is also exploring other possibilities of expanding students’ horizons by developing networks through participation in volunteer programs, work experience and other activities.

Let the Tasmanian community show those who are new to town just how great this community is, and make friends with people from all around the world in the process!
