Hobart’s spirit will fire up with a series of concerts featuring iconic works by Mahler and Stravinsky during December.
Organised by the UTAS Conservatorium of Music, the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (AISOI) presents four public concerts around Hobart.
Tickets to each concert are $35 adults and $25 concession. UTAS staff, current students and alumni have the opportunity to purchase tickets at a special discount rate of $20. To take advantage of this offer the password "UTAS" will need to be quoted when booking your tickets.
Concert 1 features the AISOI tutors presenting Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp and Beethoven’s Septet Op.20 along with works for brass and organ. This concert commences at 8pm on Friday, 4 December, at the Hobart Town Hall.
Concert 2, “Firebird”, will be conducted by David Danzmayr. Pianist Michael Kieran Harvey will perform Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.1. The program also features Don Juan by Strauss and Firebird Suite by Stravinsky. This concert commences at 8pm at the Federation Concert Hall on the Sunday, 6 December.
The final concert, “Resurrection”, will feature Mahler’s Symphony No.2 ‘The Resurrection’ and will be conducted by David Danzmayr with soloists Soprano Jane Edwards and Mezzo-Soprano Margaret Plummer with the AISOI Chorus. This concert commences at 8pm at the Hobart City Hall on the Sunday, 13 December.
Also included on the program is a free Choral Concert at 12.30pm on Saturday, 5 December at the Hobart Town Hall conducted by Matthew Toogood. Bookings are not required for this concert.
