On 8 March 2013 Senator Bob Carr, Minister of Foreign Affairs presented an International Women’s Day Address at the University of Tasmania.

In 2000, 189 nations – including Australia – made a promise to free people from extreme poverty and multiple deprivations. This pledge turned into the eight Millennium Development Goals. With just two years to go before the MDG deadline is reached, what is Australia doing to achieve Goal 3 – Gender Equality?
