UTAS Open Day 2012, Cradle Coast campus – Keynote speaker Matthew Evans, The Gourmet Farmer.
With a background as a chef and food critic, Matthew moved from inner city Sydney to rural Tasmania where he breeds pigs and grows brussel sprouts. An author of seven books and a partner in a market stall business and an artisan foodshop, Matthew is well known nationally for his SBS series, The Gourmet Farmer.
As the keynote speaker at UTAS Open Day, Cradle Coast campus, Matthew’s presentation tapped into his personal experiences and background while sharing his thoughts on the rich agricultural environment of the local North West region, and the many opportunities that this affords the region.
Tasmania’s north West is blessed with not only some of the best growing country, and best dairy country in Australia, but some of the best dairy country in the world. Thick, rich pastures, a relatively moderate climate suited to all year round grazing, and reliable rainfall add up to potential, potential, potential. As a microcosm of Tasmania, the region represents all the same great attributes the state has to offer, some at levels so bountiful it’s hard to compare. Just how will all this potential be realised? The next generation will decide.
Mr Matthew Evans appears by arrangement with Saxton Speakers Bureau.
