Utas Research Week 2012 featured the public session A Pocket Guide to Research in the Faculty of Arts, Launceston.

In this contribution, entitled Political Economy of Sustainability, Dr Fred Gale summarises his research agenda, which looks at integrating nature/environment as a category into political economic thought. His research examines how current political economic systems conceptualise sustainability at the international and national level and investigates proposed alternative political economic systems, especially those promoting civil-society centered governance structures. His research on certification and labelling as a new governance arrangement has led to embedding the notion of certification into the broader, emerging agenda of sustainability economics, Green Economy and sustainable consumption and production.

In the 2012 A Pocket Guide to Research in the Faculty of Arts eight academics in the Faculty of Arts gave five-minute presentations on their own research areas:
